A word from the MD, Mr Bryan Sissons

Welcome to you all this morning, for this, another special occasion in the long history of G.W. Sissons & Son Ltd, the opening of phase 2 of our By-pass Park Estate. I am delighted that the Right Honourable Alan Johnson MP, Minister for Employee Relations and the Regions has agreed to join us this morning to unveil the commemorative plaque and officially open phase 2. We are also joined by our local MP John Grogan, who has continually

supported the efforts of my company throughout his term of office and I would like to express my grateful thanks to them both. The Sissons name can be traced back within the history of Sherburn-in-Elmet for many hundreds of years. G.W. Sissons & Son Ltd has the enviable record of being the oldest established trading company in Sherburn-in-Elmet, with myself and my brother Ian being the fourth generation of Sissons involved in the transport industry.
The company, originally founded by my Great Grandmother, using horses and carts, remained small unitl my Father, Maurice, who is with us this morning, took the reins, although by that time all the horses and carts had gone. His ambition drove the company forward and rapid expansion followed.
Following my Dad’s retirement in 1990 we have continued where he left off. G.W. Sissons & Son Ltd now employ 80 people from this area, the company and Sherbur-in-Elmet are synonymous with our vehicles travelling the length and breadth of the UK. Our warehousing complex on Fenton Lane has transformed the old Maltings site, and our latest venture here on By-Pass Park has launched us into the new Millenium. So phase 2 is complete, another 8 units constructed and we now have a total of 14 units on the old bacon factory site, occupying an area of over 65000sq ft of previously derelict land. The Companies who have located here now employ over 100 people and we still have two units to let, although we are hoping to finalise the lease on unit 11 within the next 2 weeks along with the prospect of a further 20 jobs. This is all good news for the area and Sherburn-in-Elmet in particular. Today's opening is another milestone along the way, in the long history of G.W. Sissons & Son Ltd, thank you for sharing it with us.
